Penlyn, a native of North Carolina, attended NC State University where she graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. During college she found the world of fitness after trying to stay in shape following years of playing competitive soccer. She obtained her NASM Certified Personal Training certification after discovering her passion for helping others achieve their own goals. After growing tired of stationary weightlifting, Penlyn finally gave into Crossfit during the summer of 2017. With 15 years of competitive soccer experience, combined with a gymnastics background, Crossfit felt like a natural transition for her.
Penlyn moved to Huntington in the summer of 2018 with her boyfriend, Eric, who works for the Marshall University Rec Center. They both joined CFH and soon after Penlyn became a Level 1 Crossfit Trainer, moving her passion for helping others to Crossfit. Penlyn has a special interest in Olympic Lifting, which is much of what her own training focus’ around, but on occasion loves to suffer through a workout with the crew.
When she’s not at CFH, she enjoys spending time with her pup, Nox, who makes an occasional appearance at the box, cooking for and teaching Eric how to eat vegetables, and spending time outdoors. Penlyn is a big proponent of healthy eating whether she’s counting macros or attempting to move back to a vegan diet. She likes to live by the motto, “Working out is easy, what you do during the other 23 hours of your day is the hard part.”
Crossfit has helped Penlyn become a healthier, more confident version of herself. She is a firm believer that it is never too late to discover fitness and is passionate about helping all people learn how to live healthy and active lifestyles.
